Overview

H3C VG 10-10/10-11 voice gateway (hereinafter referred to as VG 10-10/10-11), developed by H3C, is a VoIP (Voice over IP) communications device designed mainly for small and medium–sized enterprises. VG 10-10/10-11 provides two Ethernet ports, one PHONE port (for connecting the analog phone set) and one LINE port (for connecting PSTN and provided only by VG 10-11).

VG 10-10/10-11 offers rich VoIP functions and is easy to manage, saving users’ cost effectively and making it an ideal product for small and medium–sized enterprises.

Hardware Installation

2.1  Installation Precautions

Reserve more than 10 cm (4 in.) of clearance around the VG 10-10/10-11 for heat dissipation.

2.2  Device Connection

The Ethernet ports of the VG 10-10/10-11 are standard RJ45 ports. Connect the VG 10-10/10-11 as follows.

(1) Connect one end of a network cable to the WAN port of the VG 10-10/10-11, and the other end to a network device such as an Ethernet switch, hub or router. Use another network cable to connect your PC with the LAN port of the VG 10-10/10-11, so that they can share network resources. You can configure the VG 10-10/10-11 on your PC through Web-based configuration pages.

(2) Connect one end of a telephone cable from the PSTN (public switched telephone network) to the LINE port of the VG 10-11. (If you use the VG 10-10, skip this step.)

(3) Connect an analog telephone to the PHONE port of the VG 10-10/10-11.

2.3  Connect to the power adapter

Attach one end of the power adapter that comes with the VG 10-10/10-11 to the VG 10-10/10-11 and the other end to the power socket. After the VG 10-10/10-11 is powered on, the PWR LED on its front panel lights.

Device Configuration

3.1  Prerequisite Tasks

To configure the VG 10-10/10-11 on your PC through Web-based configuration pages, set network connection parameters on your PC properly to make it in the same network segment with the VG 10-10/10-11. To do this, in the [Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties] dialog box, select [Use the following IP address] and set parameters as follows:

l    IP address: 192.168.1.10 (or another IP address in the same network segment but different from the IP address of the LAN interface  of the VG 10-10/10-11)

l    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

After the above configuration, enter the preset IP address of the VG 10-10/10-11 (192.168.1.1) in the address bar of the Internet Explorer (IE 6.0 or later). A dialog box pops up for logging onto the Web-based configuration pages.

 

Note: Do the following to enter the [Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties] dialog box:

(1) Select [Start/Settings/Network and Dial-up Connections] to open the [Network and Dial-up Connections] window.

(2) Double-click [Local Area Connection].

(3) On the pop-up [Local Area Connection Status] dialog box, click <Properties> to open the [Local Area Connection Properties] dialog box.

(4) Select [Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)] and then click <Properties>.

 

Note: By factory default settings, the VG 10-10/10-11 obtains a static IP address (192.168.1.1), and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.

 

Before you perform the configuration, you are recommended to collect the following information from your ISP (Internet service provider) or network administrator.

3.2  Quick Setup Wizard

The VG 10-10/10-11 can work in GK (GateKeeper) client mode or end-to-end mode. This section describes how to configure the VG 10-10/10-11 to operate in the GK client mode with the quick setup wizard.

(1) Select [English] from the [Language] drop-down list on the login page. Enter the username admin and keep the password box as null. Then click <Login>.

(2) The Web-based configuration page appears, where you can select [Interface] on the left pane to enter the parameter setting page. Set network parameters according to Table 2, and click <Set Values> to confirm.

(3) Select [Call Mode] on the left pane of the page and set call mode parameters according to Table 2. Then click <Set Values> to confirm.

(4) Click [Reset] on the left pane of the page to restart the VG 10-10/10-11. About 25 seconds later, the VG 10-10/10-11 restarts successfully and registers with the GK.

(5) For security considerations, you can change the login password as follows. Click <Change Password> on the left of the Web-based configuration page, and the [Change Password] page appears. On this page, set the new password as directions and click <Confirm> to save your change. The new password takes effect right after your configuration.

 

Note: Safeguard your new password.
