1 Installing/Removing a 10 GE XFP Interface Module
An S5500-SI series Ethernet switch provides two expansion module slots on its rear penal. You can optionally install the following types of expansion module in an S5500-SI series Ethernet switch.
l One-port 10 GE XFP interface module
l Dual-port 10 GE XFP interface module
l Short-haul dual-port 10 GE CX4 interface module

Step 1: Put on an ESD-preventive wrist strap and verify the ESD-preventive wrist strap properly grounded. Then take out the XFP interface module from the package.
Step 2: Loosen the mounting screws of the filler panel on the read panel of the switch with a screwdriver and remove the filler panel.
Step 3: Hold the fastening screws on the front panel of the XFP interface module, and gently push the XFP interface module in along the slot guide rail until the XFP interface module is in close contact with the switch.

Step 4: Tighten the fastening screws with a screwdriver to fix the XFP interface module.
Note: Keep the removed filler panel properly for future use.
When tightening the fastening screws at both sides of the optional module with a screwdriver or an electric screwdriver, make sure that the torque is not bigger than 0.4 N-m.
Step 1: Put on an ESD-preventive wrist strap and verify the ESD-preventive wrist strap properly grounded.
Step 2: Loosen the fastening screws at both sides of the XFP interface module using a Phillips screwdriver.
Step 3: Pull the XFP interface module towards you, until it completely comes out of the switch chassis.
Caution: When installing or removing an optional interface module, pay attention to the following points:
Do not use too much force in the operation, and do not touch the surface-mounted components directly with your hands.
After removing an optional module, if no new module is to be installed, install the filler panel as soon as possible to prevent dust and ensure the normal ventilation in the switch.

1.2.2 Installation and removal
The installation and removal procedure of CX4 interface modules is the same as that of XFP interface modules. Refer to section 1.1.3 “Installation procedure” and section 1.1.4 “Removal” for the procedures to install/remove a CX4 interface module.
