Germany: H3C Provides World Class Networking Solution for BMW International Open 2006

Background

The BMW Group is renowned as a maker of premium automobiles with outstanding quality and performance. BMW has also been involved in golf for 20 years and is active as an international golf event organizer and promoter.

The BMW International Open is a highly prestigious golf event, attracting many of the world’s best golfers every year. To provide players, the media and spectators with an unbeatable tournament experience and efficient working environment, BMW and technology sponsor Siemens wanted a world-class network that supports high bandwidth Internet access and VoIP in all meeting rooms, VIP rooms, some playgrounds and the press center. For the 2006 tournament, Siemens partnered with H3C to provide the networking solution.

Technology Solution

H3C designed the tournament’s network architecture using two S5624 multi-service switches in the core layer and eight S3952P-PWR-E1 (H3C S3600-52P-PWR-EI) Ethernet switches in the access layer. Both switches enable the building of adaptable networks with high reliability, scalability and easy management. The H3C S5600 Series Switches also feature advanced QoS capabilities and supports abundant protocols.

H3C’s H3C S3600-52P-PWR-EI switches have Power-Over-Ethernet (PoE) functionality to accommodate Siemens’ HiPath IP platform. The S3900/H3C S3600 switches are cost-effective, high performance devices enabling VoIP, video conferencing and VLAN deployments throughout the event’s main locations. Two H3C AR28-31 routers were used for WAN connectivity providing integrated FE and flexible configuration modes for the datacenter, pressroom and clubhouse.

Why H3C?

H3C was chosen because of its reputation in the data communication industry for professionalism, quality, and cost-efficient products. H3C’s total end-to-end solution was easily integrated into the multi-vendor environment and worked extremely well with the Siemens platform. BMW was also impressed with the world-class quality and proven capabilities of the H3C switches and routers to meet their needs for fast, efficient VoIP and Internet access throughout the event.

Benefits

H3C successfully provided the BMW International Open 2006 with high bandwidth Internet access and scalable VoIP capacity in an easy to manage and reliable network. Working with the Siemens HiPath IP platform, the H3C solution will significantly help the tournament reduce IDD costs. H3C’s redundant network design has resulted in no downtime for VoIP and Internet access solutions, which was a major requirement of BMW.

In addition, the advanced features of H3C’s switches and routers enable network administrators to centrally monitor and manage the network via command line, web-based management system or Network Management System (NMS) to reduce on-site maintenance to a minimum.
