China: Olympics Preparations - Beijing Capital Airport Terminal 3 Deploys H3C 10GE Network

With the Olympics fast approaching, Beijing city planners are stepping up key infrastructure construction all across the city. Among the projects that will first make an impression upon visitors will be the new Terminal 3 building at Beijing Capital Airport, for which H3C has been selected to provide the core networking and security infrastructure.

Terminal 3 (T3) is about twice the size of Terminals 1 and 2. With interior decorations and supporting projects well under way, the T3 project is expected to become operational in the second half of 2007.

H3C will supply a terminal-wide 10 Gigabit Ethernet backbone that will service all of the major real-time production and management services, including flight displays, terrestrial emergency commands and broadcasting within terminal buildings. The system will also connect more than 2,000 security cameras around the facility.

"The information system is essential to the operation and management of the T3 building. It will be built to the very highest specifications," said the H3C project manager. "During network planning and design we drew on our considerable experience from similar projects at domestic and overseas airports and tailored it for the specific needs of this project. The system will run all core airport service systems."

H3C has served a wide range of civil aviation organizations such as Shenzhen International Airport, Hangzhou Airport, Xian Airport, Jinan International Airport, the Civil Aviation Administration of China, Travel Sky Technology Limited, China Southern Airlines, Air China, Hainan Airlines and Shenzhen Airlines, gaining rich experience in airline industry applications.

The T3 building will be outfitted with a large campus network. The backbone network will be built on a full 10GE Ethernet platform with key nodes using dual devices and dual links, to ensure service reliability. The project is aimed at providing T3 with a high-performance and reliable IT platform, turning Beijing Capital Airport into a world-class international airport.
