Korea: Korea Electric Power Corporation Deployed H3C Products to Improve High Speed Links Between Its Branches and Sub-Branches

Background

Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) is one of the largest government-operated enterprises in South Korea. It provides power distribution services across the entire country. As an organization with widely separated facilities covering the width of South Korea’s 99,237 square kilometers, KEPCO operates several complex power supply and data communication networks. To improve performance in a major area of its network, KEPCO wanted to upgrade the equipment in the DaeJeon and ChungJu city networks.

KEPCO needed new high performance routers and access switches to manage its network connections between its branch headquarters in DaeJeon and ChungJu and various sub-branch offices in both cities. H3C proposed using its high performance, multi-service routers to support KEPCO’s new Multi-Service Provisioning Platform (MSPP) infrastructure.

Technology Solution

H3C installed NE20-2 high-end routers in both DaeJeon and ChungJu branch headquarters connected via Gigabit Ethernet links to H3C switches in each sub-branch. Serving as backbone HQ routers to enable integrated multi-service capabilities for converged communications, the NE20-2 routers give KEPCO high quality Video on Demand (VOD) traffic, high performance, solid reliability and abundant security features.

For high reliability and cost-effective scalability to handle future service expansions, H3C installed S3928P-EI (H3C S3600-28P-EI) Intelligent and Resilient Ethernet switches in each branch HQ and 10 sub-branch locations in DaeJeon and 11 in ChungJu. The S3900 (H3C S3600) series switches feature H3C’s Intelligent Resilient Framework (IRF) technology that allows for stackable easy-to-manage adaptive networks using advanced functions like distributed device management, distributed resilient routing and distributed link aggregation. H3C’s high performance router and switch solution provide KEPCO with a unified, highly resilient network.
