H3C Completed IPv6 Ready Phase-2 Test for Its Switches and Routers

Hong Kong, 17 April 2007 –H3C has completed IPv6 Ready Phase-2 test organized by IPv6 Forum for its MSR series routers and low to high end switches including S5500, S5510, S3610, S7500E, and S9500.

Based on the testing specifications formulated by University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL), IPv6 Forum offers the most comprehensive and widely accepted testing. Compared with phase 1, this IPv6 Ready Phase-2 Logo is a stronger proof of high applicability and practicality of IPv6 implementation, and its interoperability within multi-vendor networking environment. H3C’s success in passing the test once again shows the high performance and interoperability of H3C’s router and switch products.

According to Vent Cerf, chairman of Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), IPv4 address is to be exhausted in 2012, which will become a serious bottleneck for the development of IP-based applications. Considering the situation of explosive internet users and burgeoning new services requirement, IPv4 address are running out at a faster pace than we expect. The want of IP addresses is becoming urgent, and it starts to bring negative impact on network development. As migration to IPv6 has become a trend, the protection of previous IT investment has become one of the major concerns for large enterprises and SP customers to migrate to IPv6 network.

H3C, as a customer-oriented company, clearly sees the need and concern of customers, and has concentrated on handling the challenges of customers. It develops comprehensive IPv6 solution powered by H3C’s products with proven interoperability. By deploying double stack routers and switches, H3C guarantees smooth upgrading from IPv4 network to IPv6 network while protecting the legacy investment.

Now H3C’s IPv6 solution has witnessed wide applications in various industries like Government, Education, etc. For example, it helps to build CERNET2 (China Education and Research Network 2), one of the world largest all IPv6 network. CERNET2 became operational since 2004 linking 1500 universities in 20 cities at speeds up to 10Gbps. It will grow to encompass more universities throughout the country.

With more addresses and growing capacity of the network, IPv6 will accommodate more rich-featured applications on IP network, including data business, video surveillance, video conference, stream media on demand, etc. H3C, the global technology innovator, will spare no efforts to lead the trend and continuously invest in new technologies to meet the multi-service requirement of our customers.
