H3C Wins Bid to Build Beijing TV’s New Center

Hangzhou27 June 2008 — H3C Technologies, one of the world’s leading IP technology and solution providers, today announced that it has successfully won the bid for the production and broadcasting network for the new Beijing TV (BTV) center. This win marks the first large-scale deployment of H3C’s products and solutions in the media industry, and, once completed, the BTV will own the largest production and broadcasting network in the radio and TV industry.

As an Olympic partner, BTV has taken the lead in the industry in terms of programme production and revenue generation capabilities and their new center is located at the heart of Beijing’s central business district, and is also a brand new landmark.

To guarantee high volume MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 video flow transmissions and high information throughput, H3C has designed an innovative three-layer architecture to build the network. This architecture adopts a10 Gigabit Ethernet redundant links at the core, aggregation layers, and GE to the desktop at the access layer. The high bandwidth and high throughput meet multi-service concurrent processing, ensuring quality and efficient transmission of information.

The network design is free of failure points and redundancy is built in for key devices and links, that includes protection among links through dynamic routing, equality routing, Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP), Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP), as well as load balancing for the devices. This makes the network highly reliable and stable with fast fail-over capability.

“H3C’s core value is to deliver future-oriented network designs to customers through innovation.” Commented by Eric Sun, director of networking product line at H3C, “The network platform that will be built for BTV by H3C is equipped with the best solutions, devices and technologies and integrates programme making, broadcasting and transmission systems into one digital and intelligent network.”

BTV’s new center is a key cultural infrastructure project listed by Beijing for global guests to the fast approaching Olympic Games. As the leading IP-based product and solution vendor, H3C is actively involved in a number of such key projects including the National Grand Theatre and Terminal 3 at Beijing International Airport.
