H3C Releases New Plug-In Modules for Enhanced Security in High-End Switches

June 4, 2008 Hangzhou, China—H3C Technologies, the leading Internet architecture solution innovator, recently released five new plug-in service modules for its high-end S9500 and S7500E switches to deliver all-around, highly secure and optimized networking solutions for large enterprise users such as server farms, data centers and Internet service providers (ISPs).

“H3C is the first vendor that offers plug-in IPS (Intrusion Protection System) services based on high-end LAN switches,” said William Wang, Vice President of Marketing and Sales at H3C. “H3C’s IPS modules integrate functions such as intrusion detection and defense, virus filtering, bandwidth management and URL screening in a truly pioneering solution that addresses in-depth, intelligent network security. It is also the first time that ACG (Application Control Gateway) was used in a switch; the gateway offers the latest security features to ensure safe subscriber access control. ACG helps avoid VoIP harassment, especially for ISP and telecom carriers who provide IP networking services. In addition, ACG provides more than one hundred kinds of P2P control to keep large enterprises’ IT networks safe from malicious online threats and attacks.”

H3C also introduced AFC, or Abnormal Flow Cleansing function, a specific feature designed to fend off distributed denial of service attacks, which often block normal packet flow transport. The AFC was especially conceived for server farms and data centers, which usually have a high volume of data streaming in and out.

At the same time, the newly-released SSL VPN modules are designed to provide convenient and effective VPN access to remove additional installation and configuration work on the customer’s side.

Load balance is a key function which enables automatic network optimization of packet stream transport to enhance processing performance and server availability in a clustered computing or data center environment. H3C’s innovative load balance module enables highly efficient and secure data stream transmissions.

“For those who already possess an H3C high-end switch, new services can be added conveniently by inserting a plug-in card into the slot; for new customers, they can choose new function modules according to their business needs when introducing H3C switches,” said Wang. “By leveraging H3C’s innovative new modules, customers can apply these new security functions in their LAN conveniently. This provides H3C’s customers with a converged intelligent service platform rather than a simple LAN switch.”

All of H3C’s newly launched function modules are currently available for the China market.
