The distributed storage service is not supported if you select compute virtualization during system initialization. |
Storage resources that UIS hosts include native disks of UIS hosts and network shared special-purpose storage devices.
UIS Manager manages the storage sources as follows: Uses the integrated back-end storage management software to virtualize the native disks of the hosts into a distributed storage pools.
Accesses the special-purpose storage devices over a network, which can be NAS, IP SAN, or FC SAN.
Network attached storage (NAS)—The hosts access the shared file system on a remote file server over a TCP/IP network to store VM files. An example of a shared file system is network file system (NFS). For this purpose, you can create a file storage pool for NFS or Windows shared directories.
IP SAN—The hosts act as iSER or iSCSI initiators to access the remote targets in a storage system over an IP network. The UIS hosts have native initiator software. They can access IP SAN storage as long as they have an Ethernet adapter.
FC SAN—The hosts access remote special-purpose storage devices through Fibre Channel. An FC SAN is typically used for high-performance storage. To access an FC SAN, the hosts typically must have an FC host bus adapter (HBA). Alternatively, you can install a Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) adapter on a host so it can access the FC storage devices over Ethernet.
