Manage remote USB devices

Remote USB device management enables you to manage all remote USB devices in a cluster. After a VM using a remote USB device is migrated to another host in the cluster, the VM can continue to use the remote USB device.

Restrictions and guidelines

• Only active remote USB devices can be attached to VMs.

• A remote USB device can be attached to multiple VMs.

• If a remote USB device has been attached to an online (running or suspended) VM, the remote USB device cannot be attached to other online VMs.

• If a remote USB device has been attached to an online (running or suspended) VM, the remote USB device cannot be suspended.

Start a remote USB device

1. On the top navigation bar, click Hosts, and then select Cluster Management > Remote USB Devices.

2. Click the Start icon  for a remote USB device.

3. Click OK.

Suspend a remote USB device

1. On the top navigation bar, click Hosts, and then select Cluster Management > Remote USB Devices.

2. Click the Suspend icon  for a remote USB device.

3. Click OK.

Attach a remote USB device to VMs

1. On the top navigation bar, click Hosts, and then select Cluster Management > Remote USB Devices.

2. Click the Attach icon  for a remote USB device.

3. Select a VM, and then click OK.

Detach a remote USB device from VMs

1. On the top navigation bar, click Hosts, and then select Cluster Management > Remote USB Devices.

2. Click the Delete icon  for a remote USB device.

3. Select VMs, and then click OK.
