Configure advanced parameters

Advanced parameter configuration includes the following topics:

• vGPU parameters—Configure the IP address and port number of License server that authorizes vGPU resources.

• Private disk parameters—Configure the storage pool used for private disk allocation and the private disk retention period. A private disk is disk space in the data center allocated to a user for read and write data. The private disk feature provides convenient data access and long-term data storage for users.

To allow users to use private disks, complete the following tasks:

1. Configure a shared storage pool for mounting private disks.

2. Enable the private disk feature for the users and set the disk size when create or import users.

When a user connects to a cloud desktop, a private disk tray is displayed in the bottom right corner of the desktop. After the user logs in to the private disk, the private disk will be mounted. The user can use this private disk for data read and write. The data in the disk will not get lost after the user restarts or shut down the cloud desktop.

• VNC proxy server parameters—Configure VNC proxy server parameters.

Virtual Network Computing (VNC) enables you to remotely control another computer. It transmits the remote computer screen to the local computer over the network. VNC contains VNC clients and VNC servers. The VM consoles in Workspace are VNC clients and VMs on the hosts are VNC servers. Operators might access the VMs within the data center from an external network. To ensure data security, you must specify a VNC proxy server for the VMs. The VNC proxy server is the only node that the data center exposes to external networks. The external network can communicate with VMs within the data center only through the VNC proxy server.

• HA system parameters—Configure the host heartbeat interval and the storage heartbeat interval. Host and storage heartbeat enables Workspace to manage hosts, monitor HA resources, detect failed hosts and VMs in the cluster, and migrate failed VMs to available hosts.

• VM communication address—Space Console controller address which VMs communicate with. If the Space Console address is changed, you must modify the VM communication address.

• Management platform host parameters—Configure the size of the memory reserved for the management node.

• Monitor platform parameters—Configure the Report Data to Monitor Platform, Monitor Platform Address and Report Interval parameters as described in "Monitor platform parameters."

• Syslog server—Configure syslog server parameters for the system to send operation log to a syslog server.

Restrictions and guidelines

• Private disks are supported only for VDI cloud desktops.

• Before you configure private disk parameters, first configure shared storage pools. For more information about configuring shared storage pools, see "Configure shared storage for a cluster".

• Private disks are not supported by RBD network storage.

• Editing the reserved memory on the management node is a high-risk operation. Please perform this operation with caution.

Procedure

1. From the navigation pane, select System > Advanced Settings > System Parameters > Advanced Parameters.

2. Click the  icon next to vGPU Parameters, configure the parameters as described in "vGPU," and click Save.

3. Click the  icon next to Private Disk Parameters, configure the parameters as described in "Private disk," and click Save.

4. Click the  icon next to VNC Proxy Parameters, configure the parameters as described in "VNC proxy server parameters," and click Save.

5. Click the  icon next to HA System Parameters, configure the parameters as described in "HA system," and click Save.

6. Click the  icon next to VM Communication Address, set the IP address and port number, and click Save.

7. Click the  icon next to Management Platform Host Parameters, set the reserved memory size on the management node. In the dialog box that opens, select I am fully aware of the impacts of this operation, enter the administrator password, and then click Save.

8. Click the  icon next to Syslog Server, configure the parameters as described in "Syslog server," and then click Save.

9. Click the  icon next to Monitor Platform Parameters, configure the parameters as described in "Monitor platform parameters," and then click Save.

Parameters

vGPU parameters

• Primary License Server: Specify the IP address of the primary license server. You can set this parameter to configure or edit the license server for vGPUs no matter whether you have specified the IP address of the license server when you install and deploy vGPUs.

• Primary Port: Specify the port number of the primary license server. The default is 7070. vGPUs will use this port number to obtain licenses from the primary license server. You cannot edit the primary port number.

• Secondary License Server: Specify the IP address of the secondary license server.

• Secondary Port: Specify the port number of the secondary license server. The default is 7070. vGPUs will use this port number to obtain licenses from the secondary license server. You cannot edit the secondary port number.

Private disk parameters

• Storage Pool: Specify a storage pool to be used for allocating private disks to users.

• Private Disk Retention Time: Set the time for retaining the private disk of a user after the user is deleted, in days. The default is 10 days. Value 0 indicates that the system immediately deletes the private disk of a user after the user is deleted.

VNC proxy server parameters

• Server IP: Enter the IP address of the VNC proxy server.

• Login Password: Enter the password for the user to access the VNC proxy server.

• Login Name: Enter the username used to access the VNC proxy server.

HA system parameters

• Host Heartbeat Interval: Specify the interval at which CVK hosts send heartbeat packets to Space Console. If a CVK host fails, the heartbeat is interrupted, and VMs on the host are migrated to other hosts in the same cluster after three host heartbeat intervals and three storage heartbeat intervals.

• Storage Heartbeat Interval: Specify the interval at which CVK writes timestamps to the storage pool. If a storage network fails, the heartbeat is interrupted, and affected VMs are migrated to other hosts in the same cluster after three storage heartbeat intervals.

VM communication address

• IP: Enter the space Console controller address. If the Space Console address is modified, you must also modify this parameter.

• Port: Enter a server port number. As a best practice, use the default port number 8860.

Management platform host parameters

• Reserved Memory on Management Node: Set the default size of the memory reserved for the management node. The actual size of the memory reserved is 40% of the host memory or the default reserved memory size (whichever is smaller). To avoid system operation failure, set an appropriate value for this parameter.

Monitor platform parameters

• Report Data to Monitor Platform: Select whether to report the data to the monitor platform. This feature is enabled by default.

• Monitor Platform Address: Specify the address of the monitor platform that presents relevant data information under the office scenario and the education scenario, respectively. After deploying the monitor platform, you must configure the address as http://ip-address:18989. The ip-address value is the IP address of the server where the monitor platform resides.

• Report Interval: Set the interval at which the system uploads and updates the data to the monitor platform.

Syslog server

• Syslog Server IP: Enter IP addresses of the syslog server. If you enter multiple IP addresses, separate the IP addresses by semicolons (;). For example, 192.168.0.27;192.168.0.28 or FC00::1;FC00::2.

• Protocol: Select a protocol for sending syslog messages. The protocol can be UDP and TCP. The default protocol is TCP.

• Syslog Port: Enter a syslog server port number.
