After you incorporate the host clusters in VMware vCenter, you can create migration tasks to migrate the VMware VMs to UIS immediately or as scheduled. The migration process is agentless and only interrupts services transiently during the final phase of migration.
For the prerequisites and restrictions for VMware VM migration, see "Migrate an external VM to UIS."
Table-1 Migration status description
Status |
Description |
To Be Started |
The migration task will be started. It will be enqueued after being started successfully. |
Waiting |
The migration task has been enqueued and is pending for scheduling. |
In Progress |
The migration task is in progress. The migration phases are as follows:
|
Succeeded |
The migration task has succeeded. |
To Be Retried |
The storage migration or last storage migration has failed. You can execute the migration task again. |
Failed |
The migration task has failed. |
On the top navigation bar, click Hosts, and then select External Clusters > Migration Tasks from the left navigation pane.
Click Create Migration Task.
Configure the parameters as described in "Parameters."
Click Finish.
On the top navigation bar, click Hosts, and then select External Clusters > Migration Tasks from the left navigation pane.
Click the Migration Tasks tab.
Click a migration task name.
Edit the parameter, and then click OK.
On the top navigation bar, click Hosts, and then select External Clusters > Migration Tasks from the left navigation pane.
Click the Migration Tasks tab.
Click the icon for a migration task. Alternatively, click a migration task name, and then click Start.
Click OK.
On the top navigation bar, click Hosts, and then select External Clusters > Migration Tasks from the left navigation pane.
Click the Migration Tasks tab.
Click the icon for an ongoing migration task, and then click OK. Alternatively, Click the name of an ongoing migration task, click Suspend, and then click OK.
On the top navigation bar, click Hosts, and then select External Clusters > Migration Tasks from the left navigation pane.
Click the Migration Tasks tab.
Click the icon for a migration task in Migrating (To Be Completed) state, and then click OK. Alternatively, Click the name of a migration task in Migrating (To Be Completed) state, and then click Finish.
On the top navigation bar, click Hosts, and then select External Clusters > Migration Tasks from the left navigation pane.
Click the Migration Tasks tab.
Click the icon for a migration task, and then click OK. Alternatively, click a migration task name, and then click Delete.
On the top navigation bar, click Hosts, and then select External Clusters > Migration Tasks from the left navigation pane.
Click the Migration Tasks tab.
Click a migration task name.
External Cluster: Select the external cluster that accommodates the VM to migrate.
Source VM Name: Select the VM to migrate.
Destination VM Name: Enter a name for the migration destination VM created on UIS.
Provisioning: Select a volume provisioning mode. Options include Thin, Delay Zeroed, and Zeroed. You can modify this parameter for a VM only then the VM meets the following requirements:
The VM is in shutdown state.
The disk type of the VM is file.
The disks of the VM use single-level image files.
The VM does not have snapshots.
The following volume provisioning modes are available:
Thin—Allocates only as much storage space as the volume requires for its initial operations when the volume is created. If the volume requires more storage space later, you can allocate as much storage space as the volume requires as long as the maximum storage size is not exceeded.
Delay Zeroed—Allocates the specified maximum storage size to the volume when the volume is created. Data remaining on the physical device is not erased during creation, but is zeroed out on first write from the VM. Network file system storage pools do not support this mode.
Zeroed—Allocates the specified maximum storage size to the volume when the volume is created. Data remaining on the physical device is zeroed out during creation. It might take a longer time to create volumes in this mode than to create volumes in other modes.
Cluster/Host Name: Select a migration destination host.
Desk Disk Size: Set the disk size for the destination VM. The disk size cannot be smaller than that of the source VM.
Target Storage File: Configure a name for the storage file of the destination VM.
Target Storage Pool: Select a storage pool for the destination VM.
VM MAC: Set the MAC address of the destination VM. It is the MAC address of the source VM by default.
vSwitch: Select a vSwitch for the destination VM.
Port Profile/Port Group: Select a port profile/port group for the destination VM.
Virtual Firewall: Select a virtual firewall for the destination VM.
Automatic Incremental Migration Interval: Set the interval for performing automatic incremental backup for the source VM after the migration task is finished.
Migration Speed Limit: Set a limit on the I/O speed in MBps.
Migration Method: Select a migration method. Options are Full and Simple. A simple migration reduces the amount of migrated data by skipping unassigned blocks, and this method is supported only by vSphere/ESXi 6.7 and later. A full migration does not skip unassigned blocks.
Encrypted Transmission: Select whether to transmit data through an encrypted channel during migration.
Concurrent Acceleration: Configure whether to speed up data transmission by adding disk transmission channels.
VM Startup/Shutdown
Forcibly Shutdown: Forcibly shut down the VMware VM if the system fails to shut down it during the migration. Unsaved data on the VMware VM might be lost.
Start After Migration: Automatically boot the destination VM after the migration.
Automatically Complete Migration Task: Automatically complete the migration task. If you do not select this option, the system performs incremental migrations for the source VM regularly until you manually complete the migration task. If you select this option, the system completes the migration task after finishing incremental migrations (the incremental data size drops below a specific threshold).
