Manage VM states

You can perform the following tasks to manage VM states:

Restrictions and guidelines

Powering off a VM will cause data loss and might cause guest OS failure. As a best practice, shut down the VM from its guest OS.

Whether a VM can be shut down successfully depends on the OS of the VM. Therefore, the actual state of the VM might be different from that displayed in CVM.

Start a VM

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Resources > Host Pool Name > Host Name > VM Name or Resources > Host Pool Name > Cluster Name > Host Name > VM Name.

  1. Click Start.

  1. In the dialog box that opens, click OK.

Shut down a VM

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Resources > Host Pool Name > Host Name > VM Name or Resources > Host Pool Name > Cluster Name > Host Name > VM Name.

  1. Click Shut Down.

  1. In the dialog box that opens, click OK.

Power off a VM

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Resources > Host Pool Name > Host Name > VM Name or Resources > Host Pool Name > Cluster Name > Host Name > VM Name.

  1. Click Power Off.

  1. In the dialog box that opens, click OK.

Suspend a VM

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Resources > Host Pool Name > Host Name > VM Name or Resources > Host Pool Name > Cluster Name > Host Name > VM Name.

  1. Click More, and then select Suspend.

  1. In the dialog box that opens, click OK.

Resume a VM

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Resources > Host Pool Name > Host Name > VM Name or Resources > Host Pool Name > Cluster Name > Host Name > VM Name.

  1. Click More, and then select Resume.

  1. In the dialog box that opens, click OK.

Hibernate a VM

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Resources > Host Pool Name > Host Name > VM Name or Resources > Host Pool Name > Cluster Name > Host Name > VM Name.

  1. Click More, and then select Put to Sleep.

  1. In the dialog box that opens, click OK.

Restart a VM

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Resources > Host Pool Name > Host Name > VM Name or Resources > Host Pool Name > Cluster Name > Host Name > VM Name.

  1. Click More, and then select Restart.

  1. In the dialog box that opens, click OK.
