Manage port mirroring
Port mirroring copies the packets passing through a port to a port that connects to a data monitoring device for packet analysis and network issue diagnosis.
Operators can add, edit, and delete port mirroring items.
Restrictions and guidelines
The VM where the source port resides cannot be in VLAN 1.
You can select multiple NICs that connect to the same virtual switch on the Source Port tab.
You can select at most two NICs that connect to the same virtual switch on the Destination Port tab.
Add a port mirroring item
On the top navigation bar, click Hosts.
Select the target host, and then click the vSwitches tab.
Click the Advanced icon
for a virtual switch.
Click the Port Mirroring tab.
Click Add.
Configure the port mirroring parameters as described in "Parameters."
Click Finish.
Edit a port mirroring item
On the top navigation bar, click Hosts.
Select the target host, and then click the vSwitches tab.
Click the Advanced icon
for a virtual switch.
Click the Port Mirroring tab.
Click the Edit icon
for a port mirroring item.
Configure the port mirroring parameters as described in "Parameters."
Click Finish.
Delete port mirroring items
On the top navigation bar, click Hosts.
Select the target host, and then click the vSwitches tab.
Click the Advanced icon
for a virtual switch.
Click the Port Mirroring tab.
Click the Delete icon
for a port mirroring item.
In the dialog box that opens, click OK.
Parameters
Probe VLAN ID: Specify the dedicated VLAN for transmitting mirrored packets.
Direction: Select the mirroring direction.
Inbound—Traffic from a VM to the virtual switch.
Outbound—Traffic from the virtual switch to a VM.
Both—Traffic in both directions.
Source Port: Specify a port on the VM.
