H3C SL-1U-SCABBARD 1U chassis extension rail kit installation guide

1  About the SCABBARD extension rail kit

The H3C SL-1U-SCABBARD 1U chassis extension rail kit is extendable in length and usually used with front mounting brackets for securely rack-mounting a device.

The H3C SL-1U-SCABBARD 1U chassis extension rail kit is applicable to devices and racks meeting the following requirements:

·     The device has a depth of 360 mm (14.17 in) and is provided with four-hole front mounting brackets. For the specific device models, see Table 1.

·     The distance from front rack posts to rear rack posts is in the range of 650 mm (25.59 in) to 850 mm (33.46 in).

2  Installing the extension rail kit

WARNING

WARNING!

The rail kit is shipped with the slide rail inserted into the guide rail, but the slide rail might slide out of the guide rail due to its smooth surface and gravity. When taking out or installing the rail kit, use both hands to hold the rail kit horizontally to avoid bodily injury caused by the rail kit.

2.1  Attaching the front mounting brackets and slide rails to the switch

Select either of the following options based on the airflow design at the installation site to attach the front mounting brackets and slide rails to the switch:

·     Install the front mounting brackets at the port side of the switch and the slide rails at the power module side of the switch.

·     Install the front mounting brackets at the power module side of the switch and the slide rails at the port side of the switch.

Figure 2 shows the installation positions on the chassis for front mounting brackets and slide rails.

Figure 2 Installation positions on the chassis

(1) Port-side installation position

(2) Power module-side installation position

The procedures for the two options are similar. The following procedure installs front mounting brackets at the port side and slide rails at the power module side on an S6520X-54QC-EI switch.

1.     Wear an ESD wrist strap and make sure the strap makes good skin contact and is reliably grounded.

2.     Align the four installation holes in the wide flange of a front mounting bracket with the screw holes at the port side of the chassis and then use M4 screws to secure the front mounting bracket to the chassis.

3.     Align the four installation holes on the slide rail with the screw holes at the power module side of the chassis and then use M4 screws to secure the slide rail to the chassis.

The position of air vents on the side panel varies by device model. For good ventilation of the chassis, do not block the air vents when installing slide rails.

4.     Repeat the above two steps to attach the front mounting bracket and slide rail to the other side of the chassis.

2.2  Installing the switch in a rack

An H3C SL-1U-SCABBARD 1U chassis extension rail kit comes with eight M4 screws, four M6 screws, and four cage nuts.

To attach the four-hole front mounting brackets to the rack, four M6 screws and four cage nuts are required. Purchase them yourself.

The guide rail installation procedure is slightly different depending on the rack model. The following procedure is for your reference only.

To install the switch in the rack:

1.     Determine the switch installation position on the rack and install cage nuts on the rack posts accordingly.

Install two cage nuts at a distance of 1 U between them on each rack post as shown by callout 1 in Figure 4. Make sure the corresponding cage nuts on the left and right rack posts are at the same height.

2.     Attach the guide rails to the rear rack posts.

a.     Holding the guide rail, align the installation holes in the guide rail with the cage nuts on the rear rack posts.

b.     Use four M6 screws to secure the guide rail to the rear rack posts as shown by callout 2 in Figure 4.

c.     Use the same method to attach the other guide rail to the rear rack post.

3.     Mount the switch in the rack.

a.     One person holds the switch by its bottom, aligns the slide rails on the chassis with the guide rails on the rear rack posts, and then pushes the switch so that the slide rails slide stably into the guide rails as shown by callout 1 in Figure 5. Make sure the front mounting brackets on the chassis are flush against the front rack posts.

b.     The other person aligns the installation hole in the front mounting brackets with the cage nuts on the front rack posts and uses four M6 screws to secure the switch to the rack. See callout 2 in Figure 5.
